Sam Hutchens

Sam was born on December 12, 1988 in Rapid City, SD. His father was a computer programmer in the Air Force until he felt the call to preach after 10 years of service. In January of 1996, just as his father was joining the staff of the South Fort Worth Baptist Temple, Sam received Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 7. At age 11, in his church’s missions conference, Sam felt the call to preach, and specifically to plant a church somewhere in the world. When his family moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2004 to plant a church, his desire to one day plant a church was further confirmed in his heart. He attended the West Coast Baptist College from 2007-2012 and received his Bachelors degree in Pastoral Theology and his Masters degree in Bible. He met and dated Juliana Harris during his time at WCBC, and they were engaged in May of 2012 and married in January of 2013. In the summer of 2012, he joined the faculty of West Coast Baptist College, teaching Freshman Speech, Debate, Drama, Life of Christ, Pauline Writings, and the Book of Daniel. He also travelled for the entirety of each summer as a representative with college tour groups, taught the WCBC Junior Men’s Sunday School class, oversaw the ministry assignments of WCBC students, and was involved in the ministries of Lancaster Baptist Church through soulwinning, children’s classes, one-on-one discipleship, and music ministry. In March of 2015, the Lord began working on his heart to transition to Christchurch, New Zealand as a church planter, and surrendered to that call in November of 2015.

Juliana (Harris) Hutchens

Juliana was born on the mission field of Japan to missionaries David and Jenny Harris on December 28, 1989. She received Christ at the young age of 4 after a Sunday School service during her family’s furlough. Growing up on the mission field, Juliana always had a desire to continue in ministry work once she had grown up. This desire motivated her to attend Bible college upon high school graduation, resulting in her attendance to West Coast Baptist College from 2007-2012. She received her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and her Masters degree in Christian Education. Upon marrying Sam, she became the 2nd grade teacher at Lancaster Baptist School in the spring semester of 2013. She was also involved in serving at Lancaster Baptist Church through soulwinning, children’s classes, one-on-one discipleship, and the orchestra ministry. She, along with her husband, is very excited about the opportunity of reaching others with the Gospel in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Emma Hutchens

Sam and Juliana have one daughter, Emma, who was born on October 7th, 2015.
